"Being a part of the Honors Global Communities program to me symbolizes
my membership in a diverse group of students who are well-versed in and always ready to
discuss the concepts of diversity, inclusion, and global coexistence. "  - 2022 HGLO Student

The Honors Global Communities (HGLO) offers students the opportunity to adopt a global framework of understanding and to think deeply across contemporary global affairs and issues through the dual lenses of social science and data science. HGLO empowers students to understand and engage major global challenges through an approach integrating multiple social science fields and analytical skill sets, and also to develop an ethics of global accountability, interrelation, and social justice. Foremost among these skills is learning how to program in the R computing language and the basics of statistical modeling, both of which are very in-demand skills in today's job market. In addition to specialized courses conducted in close contact with distinguished faculty, HGLO students pursue original research on specific global topics as well as internship and study abroad experiences connected with global public service and unique opportunities of the nation's capital area.
