Bringing Global Leaders to our Students

This past Fall, Global Communities was excited to launch its Global Conversation Series, a program focused on bringing global leaders to engage in dialogue about timely global issues with the UMD community. We launched our first conversation with former Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. David Shear. GC students had the chance to participate in an intimate and candid conversation with Mr. Shear where they asked him about his interational diplomacy career, views on current U.S. and East Asian Relations, and what the direction he believes U.S. foreign policy is headed in.

GC Students Tackle the Hard Issues in Globalization Course

Global Communities is committed to providing our students with an education that engages the world and its most pressing issues. As part of our BSGC 101 course on Globalization, students participate in an indepth negotiation simulation, representing the UN Expert Commission on Sustainable Globalization. Forming delegations that represent a specific UN country, students break off into sub-committees  to debate proposals they developed to address a major issue related to environment, labor, trade, and foreign affairs.

Global Communities students enagement outside of our campus home was recently highlighted in the Office of Community Engagement's biannual report, Fearless Connectons!

For the 2017-2018 academic year, GC is proud to share that:
