Shout out to participants in GC's summer Global Service course -BSGC398 for fulfilling their Global Experience! The Global Experience is a hallmark of Global Communities that offeres students the opportunity to engage global issues first-hand through experiential courses, internships, and/or service-learning. In BSGC398, students make meaning of their internationally-focused service experience through academic content and critical reflection.
GC students had a great time visiting the Harper Macaw Chocolate Factory in Washington D.C.! Students took a tour of the facility, learned the process of chocolate making - from bean to bar, and participated in a chocolate tasting! Students also learned how Harper Macaw's founders are committed to use chocolate as a force for tropical reforestation. Each Harper Macaw product restores and protects deforested or vulnerable rainforest in Brazil. Haper Macaw also works with global and innovative NGOs to promote reforestation and ensure that cacao farmers are paid a living wage.
Global Communities is always excited to share the accomplishments of our Alums! This month, we are proud to spotlight 2014 GC Alum, Rebecca Jimenez!
Rebecca (Class of 2016) was recently awarded the prestigious Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) fellowship, where she works with the Army Research Laboratory on how blast pressure effects the brain.
